The National Archives announces the extension of working hours to 12 hours a day
The National Archives of the United Arab Emirates announces the extension of its working hours, based on the directives of His Highness, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the National Archives. For the sake of further communication of knowledge and so that the National Archives can provide its services to all beneficiaries within the country and abroad, the new working hours will be from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Sunday through Wednesday. The National Archives will continue to provide services to the public from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursdays.
This decision is based on the requests of researchers and academics whose work hours coincide with the morning schedule of the National Archives. Therefore, the working hours will be extended in both the Emirates Library and the User's Happiness Hall, as well as the outlet for the sales of the publications of the National Archives.
Regarding this decision, Dr. Abdulla Mohammed Al Raisi, Director General of the National Archives, said that, "The National Archives is keen on the satisfaction of customers and beneficiaries and on providing its services that are of benefit to researchers, academics and all members of the society. The extension of working hours has come after a survey of the views of visitors who stressed the importance of some departments of the National Archives remaining open in the evening so as to enable them to take advantage of the resources held pertaining to the memory of the homeland.”

The National Archives of the United Arab Emirates plans to host its Fourth Annual National and Foreign Teachers Forum from 22 August to 12 September 2017. This forum is intended to introduce teachers to the culture, history and social values of the United Arab Emirates and to inform teachers by introducing to them methods that are influenced by the strongly held traditions of tolerance and coexistence amongst the many nationalities represented in the UAE. This forum is especially designed to encourage teachers,who have been nominated by the Abu Dhabi Educational Council, the Ministry of Education, or the Emirates National Schools, to promote a sense of national loyalty and belonging and facilitate the consolidation of our national identity. It is believed that such a program will prepare students to assume their responsibilities to the homeland in the future.

Included in the program of the National Teachers Forum, is a lecture delivered by Dr. Aisha Bilkhair, Research Advisor at the National Archives. The lecture is entitled, “History and Culture of the United Arab Emirates,” and will endeavor to show how the happiness of the UAE people has its foundations in mutual tolerance and acceptance. In addition, it will point to the role played by the founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in instilling values implied by the meaning of its original name, which was Emirates of the Reconciled Coast. The lecture will also address the historical background of the UAE, which has its origins in the civilization of Umm al-Nar, showing that the UAE is not a recently emerging civilization. Therefore, they adopted and excelled in charitable and humanitarian campaigns and initiatives. They sought to nurture the sense of social responsibility by playing host, in schools on a scheduled day, to the determined ones (people with special needs), as named by H.H. Student events took place in some shopping malls. Some schools organized an entertaining charity day under the slogan: “By Giving, We Cheer Others Up”. Some schools honored cleaners on Labor Day. Most of these activities were carried out in the context of voluntary work, in addition to days dedicated to the heritage, and to acquainting foreigners with the UAE history, and other days to the heritage cinema, which broadcasted oral history interviews. The Student Historians’ Club members promoted and publicized their activities through social media. The club activities continued unabated in all forms of giving, including without limitation, patriotism, voluntary service or social responsibility. Their excellent work was evidenced by the Student Historians’ Club contest. This was sponsored by the National Archives in cooperation with its strategic partner, Abu Dhabi Education Council as part of the National Archives efforts to gear up students’ energies towards well-devised and planned national historical programs that contribute to the development of society, building and enhancing students’ personalities and instilling moral values and high ideals in them.

The National Archives Organizes Exhibitions of Historical Photographs to Mark Zayed Humanitarian Day
In the Year of Giving and in celebration of Zayed Humanitarian Day, the National Archives organized an exhibition of historical photographs in Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and distributed hundreds of copies of its best-selling Books “Zayed and Excellence” and “Zayed from Challenges to Union”). In its belief in the importance of the social responsibility, the National Archives organized, as well, two photography exhibitions; one at the end of Al Ain Ramadan Championship 2017 and the other was at Al Ain Club for the Disabled.
These exhibitions included historical photographs that document some of Sheikh Zayed generous acts of benevolence to his people and to the peoples of the world at large, as a token of appreciation, and as a way to raise their standard of living.
It is noteworthy that the National Archives’ annual holding of a documentary exhibition at Sheikh Zayed Mosque included this year some rare photographs together with screens displaying documentary films. This allowed a large number of the Mosque visitors and worshippers to have a look at some of the National Archives’ treasures, which shed light on proud pages of the UAE history. They capture the achievements of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who serves as an ideal example of leadership acumen that brings great benefits to all its people, and extend its humanitarian giving to those in need around the world, regardless of their race and religion.
The National Archives makes sure to participate in Zayed Humanitarian Day, because it is very special to all Emiratis, as it honors the memory of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE founding leader. In fact, it is a tribute to his leading role in setting in motion the process of humanitarian giving in the UAE.
Through its exhibitions, the National Archives opens a window of opportunity for people to have a close look at Sheikh Zayed’s achievements in the field of charitable and humanitarian work. Actually, such a charitable and humanitarian work has become a slogan for the UAE’s leadership and people. This was especially so in 2017, the Year of Giving that brought tremendous happiness to a great many people and helped alleviate the suffering of those in need and those affected by disasters worldwide. Not to mention the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who set great store by the UAE humanitarian role since its formation and instilled in his people a passion for giving in all fields of humanitarian endeavors.
